What a High Command replacement includes

The whole system, not just the shingles.

A roof is more than what you see from the driveway. Every High Command replacement replaces the parts that actually keep water out — and most of them never show up in a cheap bid.

Full tear-off & deck inspection

We strip to the deck, rot-replace bad decking, and re-pull every nail — most contractors just pound the old ones back in. A clean deck provides surface for an efficient installation of the waterproofing & shingles.

Drip edge & flashing replaced

After tear-off, drip edge goes on the eaves first. The ice & water / synthetic underlayment then lays over the drip edge on the eaves, and is tucked under the drip edge on the rakes (gables) — so water sheds off the edge instead of getting behind it. New flashing at chimneys, walls and pipes too.

Ice & water shield + underlayment

Waterproofing at valleys, eaves and penetrations, with synthetic underlayment across the whole deck. It lays over the drip edge on the eaves and tucks under it on the rakes — water can't get behind the edge. Around every major penetration — pipe flashings included — we wrap ice & water shield between the pipe and the decking, so if the pipe flashing itself ever fills or fails, that membrane underneath is still doing the sealing. Extra protection most bids skip.

Shingles installed to spec

Owens Corning shingles, correct nail pattern and fastener count, manufacturer-specified starter and ridge. Every course is laid on a proper offset — shingle joints staggered between rows so no seam lines up with the one below it, which is what keeps water from tracking down a joint. It's a detail cheap crews rush and skip.

And before any shingles go down, the starter strip is angled-cut at every corner so the corner seals 100 percent — corners are the most wind-vulnerable spot on a roof, and that cut is what keeps them from lifting.

Ridge cap installed straight & wind-right

Manufacturer ridge cap shingles always installed on a snap line — chalked straight across the ridge so the cap reads dead-straight from the street. Each course is installed against the prevailing wind, so wind can't catch an exposed edge.

Facts & questions

Roof costs, lifespans & straight answers

How much does a roof replacement cost?

Most Treasure Valley replacements run roughly $8,000–$20,000+ depending on roof size, pitch, layers to tear off, and the shingle line you choose. Smaller homes with simple rooflines land at the lower end; larger or steep homes with valley-heavy rooflines land higher. We don't do phone-ballpark pricing — we measure, then give you a line-item written quote.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most homes are done in 1–2 working days — tear-off one day, install and cleanup the next. Larger or steep roofs can take a third day. Weather is the one thing that moves a schedule, and we never shingle over a wet deck.

How many years does a shingle roof last?

Standard 3-tab shingles typically last 18–22 years in Idaho's sun-and-hail climate. Architectural shingles — what we install most — typically run 25–35 years when they're properly ventilated and flashed. A lot of the roofs we replace around the valley are original 2000s builds hitting that 20-year mark now.

What shortens a roof's life?

Poor ventilation is the big one — heat cooks shingles from underneath. Also: shingling over old layers, missing or cracked flashing, clogged gutters holding water, and hail. The optional 50-year Owens Corning warranty only stays valid when the system is installed to manufacturer spec — which is exactly how we install.

How do I know if I need a replacement vs. a repair?

Rules of thumb: curled, cracked or missing shingles across large areas, granules filling your gutters, a roof past 20 years, or a leak in more than one spot — replacement territory. One isolated leak on a younger roof is usually a repair. We'll tell you honestly at the inspection, even if the answer is "you don't need us yet."

Does insurance help pay for it?

Often, yes — hail and wind damage are commonly covered. Our free claim assistance meets your adjuster on the roof so covered damage gets documented and paid. Financing through U.S. Bank Avvance is also available if you're paying out of pocket.
